I lived in downtown Evanston during my undergraduate years at Northwestern. I was seeking a quiet place where I could complete my graduate degree. My first-floor apt. offered huge space, walking proximity to the campus and the Conley’s were great landlords.
The Conley’s were the best. I took out a one-year lease not knowing how I would like living there and I was incredibly happy living in my coach house apt. They also did not raise the rent for the second year of my lease.
A perfect location. My apt. offered everything I had hoped to find when I was looking for an apt. near the campus. I had been out of college for five years and the thought of attending grad school while living in an apt. complex with all the others was something I did not want. The coach house offered great space, a 7-minute walk to the Jacobs center, the beach was across the street, and Whole Foods is two blocks away. It was a stressful time, and my living space offered the perfect environment for me.
What’s not to love about the coach house. A wonderful location. I came with my car but decided to save on gas/insurance and kept it at my parents in New York. I didn’t need a car. The public transportation is 10-minute walk along with every other convenience. It also was a beautiful place to live. The Conley’s were always very accommodating.
The coach house is in the back of the Conley’s estate. I was a little worried that it might be too close, and I would lose some privacy. After two years of living here, I can say the Conley’s were incredibly respectful of my space. I actually never saw them. When I left town for the holidays, they retrieved my mail, etc. Great landlords.
Having rented for years, I know the difference between good & bad landlords-the Conley’s are the best. The coach house was a great place to live.
On those cold winter nights, my wife and I enjoyed the comfort of a real crackling fire. We loved our time here and would recommend the coach house to anyone. There is not another space like it in Evanston.
My fellow grad students were very jealous of my apt. It’s one of a kind and it’s close to everything.
The lake is right across the street. There were times when I would get up early and watch the sunrise. It’s incredible to live so close to Lake Michigan. It had a very calming affect on me during a very stressful two years while I got through grad school.
What can I say about the coach house? I appreciated the fact that I always knew what my expenses were. The coach house includes all the utilities. I wrote one check each month and forgot about the rest. It was a pleasure living at 1632.
I felt very safe living in the coach house. There is lots of exterior lighting and it’s a quiet neighborhood. The walk to the campus is a short distance. I will miss my apt. that I called home for two years.
